I get asked pretty regularly, “How long does it take for me to dominate or rank on Google?”
That is an interesting question.

It doesn’t have to take long to build a winning website or to get your site attracting customers.
|
|
|
At the same time, as the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
|
|
All companies – small, medium, and large are looking for immediate results. And you will get that with paid ad campaigns (Google ads, Facebook ads). That is a quick solution for immediate results.
But what about SEO, you say? SEO is the longer term solution that builds your company into the future.
We have worked with many small companies with SEO and when they stay the online course, it has resulted in them dominating their online searches.

Steady monthly actions without pause brought their traffic up and continually improved their online presence, content and value. Google recognizes this as an “organic” approach to online marketing and rewards it.
On the other hand, we’ve had companies drop their SEO program in less than a year to their detriment, as months of SEO that had built up was then lost.

SEO is not a “test it out service.” It’s already been tested. Google has already told us that most searchers go to the top ten spots as well as to the maps and Google Business Profile to find their products or suppliers. So, that brings us back to the question: how long does it take?

For most small businesses, achieving profitability takes around 2 to 3 years, with true success often emerging after 7 to 10 years. While stories of “overnight” success like Facebook capture headlines, the reality is that sustained success typically requires years of hard work and persistence.

With regards to getting really ranked on the search engines here is the answer from me as well as 75 experts that were surveyed on the subject:
“It typically takes three to six months for SEO to show results. That’s according to the 3,680 people who responded to our polls on LinkedIn and X.”

But the reality is that there’s no definitive time frame. There are many different factors that affect this.
Some of the variables are:
- How much money you are putting into your SEO. Less than $1000 per month is a low budget in our current environment.
- Is one person doing the SEO or is it a company with a strategy and staff to implement it?
- Is your site ready for SEO? The cheaper your website was made, the more SEO errors there are, the longer this site will take to rank. This is why many websites don’t rank well or take longer than other websites to get to the top.
- How much content does your site have?
- How much content is being added every month?
- Are relevant links being added?
- Are you up against competitors that have been implementing SEO strategies for their company over many years?
- How many keywords are being worked on?
These are some of the variables off the top of my head. This list could go on and on, trust me. |
